A little bit about us…

Our History

We have owned our property on Roatán for 18 years and have shared it with those we love. What started as a personal love affair with the island has turned into a desire to share what we’ve called home for so long with others. Our goal is to provide a place that feels like home to where you can make memories with your family or friends. The island is called “The Original Paradise” and we think it fits.

THE HISTORY OF

ROATÁN ISLAND

ROATÁN ISLAND

Christopher Columbus came across the Bay Islands on his fourth voyage in 1502. Inhabited by the Paya Indians, the Spanish took control and raided the islands for slave labor. English pirates soon followed and thus began the back-and-forth battle of control of the islands, with a notably fierce battle in Port Royal in 1782. In 1797 the first real settlement was established when 2500 Garifuna were forcibly removed from St. Vincent and stranded on Roatán, creating the town of Punta Gorda. While gaining independence from Spain in 1821, by 1842 a thriving British community existed on the islands and was officially recognized by Her Majesty Queen Victoria as “the Crown Colony of the Bay Islands.”
