  • What kind of fish can you catch in Roatán?

    Fish commonly caught in Roatán include wahoo, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, barracuda, blue marlin, white marlin, permit and bonefish.

  • Do you need a fishing license in Honduras?

    Honduras Fishing License - No license required.

  • Can you spearfish in Roatán?

    On Roatán, spearfishing is illegal, save for one fish - lionfish. While they are a welcome sight in Southeast Asia and Australia, they are an invasive species in the Americas, throwing off the natural balance of the reefs.

  • Fishing Season

    Fly Fishing: 

    February to July will give you the best chance of a Permit. Although fishing can be good all year round, the most significant numbers of fish turn up between Fishing season. 

    February and July:

    This is because their spawning season runs between March and April, and these months see them at their most aggressive and willing to take a fly.

    October to January is best for the Tarpon, although they are present all year round like the Bonefish. November, the usual start of the rainy season, can often be the most productive.

  • Is fishing good in Roatán?

    The calm seas of the island are considered one of the best sport fishing spots in the Caribbean. Fish commonly caught in Roatán include wahoo, yellow fin tuna, mahi-mahi, barracuda, blue marlin, white marlin and sail fish.

  • Offshore or Trolling

    More specifically, the months from June to September (and, some years, even October) are when you can strike gold as you go fishing in the deeper waters of the sea.

  • What time of day is it best to fish?

    Fish generally prefer early morning and evening sun to the bright midday rays. In midday, the surface temperature of the water is also hotter, forcing the fish to move deeper.

  • How deep are the dives in Roatán?

    Because of its proximity to the reef, dives can take place in just a few feet of water or down to 33m (110 feet) and more. There are plenty of shallow reef dives available for novice divers, but there’s also a wide array of sites geared toward advanced divers.

  • What is diving in Roatán like?

    Roatán is a diver’s paradise and offers wall dives, shipwrecks, shallow corals, macro marine life (seahorses are a must) and some giants of the ocean, like the incredible whale shark. It is very versatile for divers since the dive sites are just a few minutes from the coast and there are plenty to choose from.

  • Whale Sharks in Roatán

    Roatán and the Bay Islands are one of the few places in the world where visitors are able to see whale sharks year-round. They are protected by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and the CITIES Agreement.

  • Do I need to bring my Scuba Certification?

    Yes, you do need your Scuba Certification to dive in Roatán.

  • When is the rainy season in Roatán?

    The rainy season in Roatán is from October to January.  There can be several days without rain and lots of sun during this period as well as days with a mix of both.

  • Do you provide beach towels for my use while at the villa?

    Yes, we provide beach towels.

  • Are there laundry facilities on-site?

    Yes.

  • What about emergencies? Is there medical care?

    Yes, there is a Doctor 5 min away in Oak Ridge. There is also a hospital nearby.

  • Are there sand flies and mosquitoes?

    Certain areas have mosquitoes and sand flies. Some people are more sensitive than others. It is advisable to bring an insect repellant. We are on the side of the island that receives the trade winds so most days there is a breeze and that helps keep the bugs down.
