Snorkeling from the Villa
The reef awaits

ROATAN IS THE LARGEST of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras, and it’s a diver's and snorkeler's paradise. Its crystal-clear waters, teeming with marine life, offer an unforgettable underwater experience. While the west end of the island is popular for its dive sites, the east end boasts equally stunning snorkeling spots, often less crowded and just as rewarding.
Why Snorkel on Roatan's East End?
The east end is home to healthy coral reefs, showcasing a kaleidoscope of colors and textures. It features diverse marine life — snorkelers will encounter a variety of fish species, from tiny tropical reef fish to majestic eagle rays and even the occasional shark.
And, generally speaking the waters along the reef on the East End are calm and clear. The protected bays on the East End are perfect for leisurely snorkeling.
Snorkelers can, with a little help, escape the crowds and relax on pristine, secluded beaches where they can literally walk into the Caribbean and go snorkeling. With numerous shallow wrecks and reefs all along the East End, snorkelers can get away from the hustle and bustle of the resort district on the West End and enjoy their pastime only with those they wish.

Some East End snorkeling destinations
- Punta Gorda Marine Reserve: This protected area offers excellent snorkeling opportunities, especially around the mangrove channels.
- Camp Bay: A hidden gem with calm, shallow waters and a diverse marine ecosystem.
- Half Moon Bay: This picturesque bay is ideal for families with young children, with its gentle slope and abundant marine life.
- Jonesville: A small fishing village with access to beautiful reefs and clear waters.

Tips for Snorkeling on Roatan's East End
- Choose the right time: The best time to snorkel is during the dry season (November to April) when the water is clearest and the marine life is most active.
- Bring good snorkel gear: Invest in high-quality snorkeling gear, including a mask, snorkel, and fins. The cheap stuff you might pick up in a gift store is fine for a casual day on the water, but if you’re serious about snorkeling, come to Roatan with good gear.
- Respect the marine environment. Don’t touch or disturb the coral reefs and marine life. Leave it just like you found it.
- Use reef-safe sunscreen: Protect yourself from the sun while minimizing harm to the environment.
- Hire a local guide. Or, better yet, let us book your snorkeling adventure for you. At Ocean Breeze Villa, our guests can literally snorkel off of our private dock, but if you’d like to explore, we can help book your snorkeling experience before you even get to the island.
